Cupcake Tour Itinerary

  • Baked by Melissa Founded in August 2008 by Melissa Bushell, New Yorkers love Melissa's cupcakes, especially the signature tie-dye cupcake!
  • Bisous CiaoMacarons have picked up where cupcakes left off, and this sweet and simple West Village cafe makes the best in NYC
  • Amorino While strictly a cupcake tour, we couldn't overlook the amazing gelato on offer at Amorino, when you try it you'll understand!
  • Molly's Cupcakes At Molly's you can create your very own cupcake. Pick a cake flavor, choose a frosting and then dress it up with tasty toppings. Made right in front of you. Yummy!
  • Milk & Cookies The cutest bakery in the West Village has cupcakes, but you'll probably want to try one of their famous cookies instead
  • Magnolia Bakery No cupcake tour would be complete without a trip to the most famous bakery in NYC for a red velvet cupcake

My wife purchased though Groupon as a Valentine's Day present and chose what turned out to be the first really sunny day in 2014!

Our guide was Alex, the ultimate history buff and knowledge base of a wide range of interesting topics. His tour was not JUST a walk about to taste cup cakes, it was very interesting and we learned a lot.

The cup cakes themselves were pretty good, too! I am not a sugar freak so some were overkill, but the range and diversity of the samplings were extremely good, and great value.

We would thoroughly recommend the tour, really regardless of how much you like cupcakes. We plan to go on others.

Thank you for a great few hours!

Bought the tour package for my daughter's birthday and took a trip in to NYC from LI for the cupcake tour with Jessie. First off, the weather was just fantastic! We started out at the Coffee shop for an outside breakfast (in April!) and shopped the Union Square farmer's market (highly recommended!)

The tour was lovely: Jess was a great tour guide, pointing out more than just cupcakes. A nice trip through NYU and the village. Will review the places independently as well, but as far as the sweets on the tour: gelato wins hands down. We travel throughout Europe quite often, and Amorino's gelato is by far one of the best gelatos I have had -- EVER.

    EVER.

    In my grand rating scheme:

Second place (first place in cupcakes, by far!): Molly's cupcakes: delicious. Try the carrot cake with brown butter icing.

Third place: Bisous Ciao: macarons ... the blood orange is fantastic! and there are so many to choose from, although we had the salted caramel to taste

Fourth Place: Crumbs. Good size, but I've always liked Crumbs since there's one next to my house!

Fifth Place (many will probably disagree): Magnolia Bakery. The cream cheese frosting on the red velvet was too much like whipped cream, and the red velvet, IMO tasted like vanilla cake with a TON of red food coloring. My teeth actually turned red: yuck.

Sixth Place: Baked By Melissa. Mini, mini, mini cupcakes. Can't really taste the great flavors in a cupcake's texture when it's about a tablespoon in size. I like my cupcakes to be an adventure, not a fleeting moment.

I wanted to do something different with my 12 year old daughter. Since she loves cupcakes I decided to try an offer I saw on Groupon, it was for a cupcake tour of NYC. Our tour guide was Mallory, she was sweet, funny and very informative. We visited 6 locations on this tour. Everyone of our stops had delicious treats for us to taste. My very favorite stop was Molly's. I highly recommend this tour for people of all ages that have a sweet tooth like I do.

Went with five others during a girls trip to NYC. Mallory, our guide, is a doll. Very helpful, pleasant, and fun. Walked down some beautiful streets in the NYU/Greenwich Village area and got to see Washington Square--an unexpected bonus. As far as the cupcakes--they were just ok. The best thing we tried was the gelato at Amorino and we went back the following day to have more. The second best thing we sampled were macarons. In my opinion, other than Crumbs, the cupcakes weren't worth the calorie intake. Overall, we were glad we went and had a fun 2-hr walk through a pretty area and enjoyed visiting with Mallory. Note--there is only one bakery that allows bathroom use, and it is a little over half way through the tour.

I have to say that our tour guide Mallory was awesome, fun, informative, caring, and made it even more of a sweet tour. All of the six stops were so fun and delicious! I enjoyed walking through the village and past Union Square to go to the different shops. All of the places were great, but my two favorites were Molly's Cupcakes and Magnolias Bakery. The stories behind them were so special. I strongly recommend the New York City cupcake tour to anyone who's in for a great experience and some tasty treats.

My mom bought my boyfriend a cupcake tour for his birthday so we went today. We met at union square, our tour guide was named Marcy. She was really nice, upbeat and knowledgeable. Its good to wear sneakers because you will be walking around for about 2 hours. We went to baked by Melissa first, then crumbs, amorino (for gelato), mollys, milk and cookies, and finally magnolias. Our tour guide let the group choose if we wanted macaroons or cookies, so if we would have picked macaroons i think we would have gone to a different place. This tour was the perfect amount of time, a perfect amount of food, and in a perfect order. I would recommend it for anyone; families, couples, friends. This tour was amazing!

My daughter and I decided to do something different this time in NYC and I found a Groupon deal for a cup cake tour. We were very lucky to have picked a day when the weather was great which made it even more enjoyable. We were met by Alex in Union Square who expected 15 people in all but only 4 turned up (the group was 30 in all but the first half had already left). No problem for us though, on the contrary. We learned heaps from Alex about the history of New York in general and some of the places we walked by in particular. Alex is very knowledgeable but could perhaps consider that not everyone is a "history nerd" like him and somewhat adapt his flow of historical tidbits to the interest of the audience at times. Having said that, being only four in the group, we walked alongside him the whole time which won't be the case if there are 15 in the group so we probably got "more than our fair share". Alex is very enthusiastic and obviously has a passion for history. The tastings were delicious, we particularly enjoyed the gluten-free and vegan cup cakes at Crumbs (there is a special one for that). Magnolia's cup cake was a disappointment though, quite dry. All in all, a very enjoyable walk (2 hours, wear comfy shoes!) for our tastebuds. We visited five different cup cake shops, one of which had bathroom facilities and free water which was nice. We walked through areas (Greenwich Village) we would not have found ourselves and learned a lot about what makes NYC such a bustling melting pot. Would recommend this tour.

We lucked out with a perfect weather day, and even caught the annual NYC pillow fight on our walk through Washington Square Park. My out-of-town friends loved that they not only got some sweets but got to walk around the city, too.

Always looking for something new to do with our 13yr old and 10 yr old grandchildren, we made reservations through Groupon at a 50% discount for 12 noon on what seemed like the coldest day of the year. Only grandparents can get away with feeding their grandchildren an array of cupcakes and goodies for lunch!

As a Long Island, New Yorker, the 11/2 mile walk from Union Square to Greenwich Village wasn't new. But for a visitor from out of state, this 2 hour tour might be a nice way to see a part of New York City that is not the more famous Times Square or Rockfeller Center, and with 6 stops for yummy sweets along the way.

Mallory, our guide, was adorable with a good personality- enthusiastic and articulate. She greeted us in her "cupcake" knit hat and genuine smile and filled our minds with facts about the area along the way in addition to filling our sweet tooths with cupcakes from NYC's top/award winning bakeries. We even had a gelato taste and a macaron (not macaroon) from the one and only place that makes these in NYC.

I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to do a little different tour in NYC. There were 20 persons in our group, 18 of whom were from the NY/NJ area and only 2 from (of all places in Feb) sunny Miami. International travellers or 1st timers to NYC who have limited time, stay with the famous landmarks first. The Great New York Cupcake Tour is a lot of fun but just icing on the cake!

She had great energy and enthusiasm. She was happy to take pictures and was very patient. We flawlessly went to six different bakeries.

I suggest you look for the groupon for this tour thought. Although I had a great time on this tour, I don't know if it would have been worth the fifty dollars per person. On groupon we paid 35 dollars for two people.

Make sure you bring your appetite with you on the tour!

First off, I'd give this 4 1/2 if that was an option as the tour was a lot of fun.

We ordered our tour from Groupon for two families of four. I believe our group had a total of 18 people which was manageable over the Thanksgiving holiday. The biggest issue I had was the start where our confirmation gave us an address but the tour was waiting at the edge of Union Square park. The guide called us to find us which was great. We were only a block or so away, so not a big deal but if you go, pick up is Southwest Corner of the park on the park side.

The tour was likely about 1 mile and half total. We started at Union Square Park and ended up in the Village on Bleeker (don't start and stop at the same place).

1st stop - very small cupcake which was tasty. I'm guessing they do a flavor of the month you get. Everyone got the same flavor.

2nd stop - Crumbs - brought out some samples sizes. Different flavors, but first come, first serve.

3rd stop - Gelato place that was mango. Everyone got a spoonful

4th stop - Got to "make your cupcake" by picking from flavor of cake and icing. About 5 choices each (and my favorite one)

5th stop - Milk and Cookies. It was a salt caramel cook. Kids weren't a big fan. I think it would depend if you like salt or not. No choice, everyone got the same one

6th stop - Magnolia Cafe and red velvet cake. It was nice because they put those in the box to eat or take home.

All in all, the group had fun. I did find it a little weird that the cupcake tour had cookies and gelato as well. They were a nice change of pace, but kind of goes against the theme. We only went in one store as most are small and they bring the food out to you. Again, only one place did you get to pick your flavor.

We had an opportunity to sample several different cupcake offerings as well as delicious gelato and French cookies. Especially enjoyed Baked by Melissa, Molly's (great story) and the mango sorbet at Amorino. Have to say it was my second visit to Magnolia Bakery and this trip just served to confirm that I don't like their cupcakes. This is our second tour with Great New York tours (first was Chocolate Tour), and like the first one, a very enjoyable experience. Despite being native NY'ers there was still plenty of history to be learned during the tour about the West Village and surrounding areas. All 6 tasting stops were quite good. We all agreed on Molly's being the best cupcake. The gelato tasting was a nice break in the cupcake action and the salted oatmeal white chocolate chip cookie from Milk & Cookies was outstanding. I wish we could have tried more cupcakes, but it was still a really fun time. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you will have to walk a lot. If you bring kids let them bring a scooter! My daughter had a fun time riding hers during the walk. We had a really cool tour guide named Jessie. She seemed like she's been doing this for a while because she not only took us to the cupcakes places so also showed us some cool NYC landmarks and made us laugh, always a good thing. I took myself and my three kids on my birthday 8/31 to the cup cake tour. We met at union square and it was easy to find Jessie the group leader. We walked for approx 2 hours and visited several cup cake shops and gelato store and French macaroon store. Kids had an amazing time , we ate cupcakes in every store that was part of the tour. I even had a birthday cupcake with a candle that was provided by Jessie when she knew it was my birthday. Jessie is funny, charming able to connect with people and knowledgeable about cupcakes and history of the area. We ended the tour as promised tired from burning the calories of the cup cakes we ate.
I highly recommend doing this for anyone who loves cup cakes and as a much fun activities for children.

Thank you Mallory for a funny and good-humored tour of lower Manhattan's most delicious destinations! We booked all 40 spots in the 2 tours scheduled for a day with moms and kids, and Mallory was gracious, patient, and so nice. The tour was fun, going to the great stops like Baked by Melissa, Magnolia Bakery, Molly's, and introducing us to a new Macaron bakery that was unique and delicious. We got a mini cupcake at most shops, and a full sized one at the end at Magnolia bakery, which most of us just took in a box to bring home since we were so stuffed. Be prepared for a lot of walking, but it was by no means overwhelming. Mallory was considerate of my friend, who is gluten-free, by letting her finish off the Mango gelato container, and Molly's went down and got some freshly-baked gluten-free cupcakes for her. Overall, we really enjoyed our tour.

    by BillBar513 (a TripAdvisor Member) on 8 Aug 2013

This tour is a great way to spend a summer afternoon in NYC. Mallory, our guide, was charming and informative. She answered everyone's questions and waited patiently for tour members to make purchases, etc. We never felt rushed. All the treats were delicious. However, not all of them were cupcakes. The tour stops at a gelato store and a cookie shop. Actually, for me, the best things we tasted were the gelato and cookies!

It is a walking tour so some stamina is required, especially on a hot day. However, the pace is fairly slow. I would recommend this tour for visitors and New Yorkers alike. I live in NYC and did the tour with my mom, sister-in-law and niece. For them it was a great way to see The Village and for me it was fun to revisit an area I don't frequent as much these days.

I was given a true gift of love - a NYC Cupcake Tour from my daughter on Mother's Day (she is 17 and heading to college in the fall - wanted an outing in the summer for us to look forward to) . We enjoyed Jessie's easy going manner and knowledge of facts and history of the city and stops along the way. It was nice, even as hot as it was to tour the city in a different way (born in Queens and have lived in New York my whole life) and discover facts and see the history I hadn't known. The stops for cupcakes, gelati, and cookies were all tastier than the last and I would recommend it to anyone from out of town and even more to us native New Yorkers who think we know a lot about our awesome NYC. Thanks Jessie with providing my daughter and I with a very memorable day :)

This was a fun tour, and even informative. You get a nice sampling of cupcakes, plus a really good gelato sample and unique cookie sample. The cupcakes were small, except for the last one, but the cookie was sizable and you are full when you're done. The tour guide Mallory was friendly, informative, humorous and she (along with the tour) are recommended for anyone interested

We made 6 stops. 4 were to cupcake places, 1 to a gelato place, and 1 to a cookie place. 2 samples were mini cupcakes, 1 was a spoonful of gelato, 2 were regular size cupcakes, and 1 was a nice huge cookie :^) very nice tour. not a lot of walking. destinations were at most 7minutes apart walking. stopped along the way in Washington Square park to take picturs. Very nice park. I would surely do this tour or any other tour from this company again!

This is a must do.

This tour was really good. We had Jessie as our tour guide and she truly knew a lot about the history of each place and also the history of the areas we walked past. My favorite was definitely melissa's cupcakes however they were really small. My advice is to bring water to cleanse your palettes and dont eat a big lunch before you go.

My friends and I took the Cupcake tour this past weekend (June 16th) and it was just splendid! Our tour guide (Cybil) gave us loads of information and was just fun to be around. The cupcakes, gelato and cookie were to die for! All in all it was a fun and filing tour. We got to take some home with us when we couldn't eat them anymore! Do not come full, but get ready for the sugar high!

Saw a deal for this tour in Amazon local and couldn't pass it up. Boy was it worth it! Mallory was our tour guide and she was wonderful, funny, friendly, and knowledgeable about all the sights and cupcake spots. I was very pleased with the tour and the cupcakes were yummy. My favorite by far was Molly's cupcakes because they were fresh! Some of the other famous bakeries were a bit stale. My advice to everyone: BRING WATER! It truly helped me cleanse my palette after each tasting. This was a great tour by the end my sweet tooth was hurting (literally).

Props to Great New York Tours for employing EXCELLENT tours guides--our expedition happened on a dreadfully rainy and cold day and yet Mallory remained upbeat, excited and funny the entire time.

Mallory took us to 6 different locations around the Village. 4 of those were cupcake spots (Molly's is hands-down the best), where we were given one mini cupcake each to sample--yes, you don't get regular-sized cupcakes at every/any location--which is FINE--you are SO sugared-out by the end of the tour...The other 2 locations did not sell cupcakes, but were a GREAT addition to the tour as the gelato at one and the cookies at another were an exciting contrast and simply AMAZING.

Overall, a lovely way to walk around that beautiful neighborhood and treat yourself to a very satisfying array of desserts.

We went on this tour last Friday - a beautiful spring day, perfect weather to walk the mile and half as we ate our way through parts of the Village. 4 stops for cupcakes - they were mini-cupcakes,except for the last stop at Magnolia Bakery, so that was perfect. The gelato stop was well worth it and so was the stop for the macaron! The bakeries are mostly small, so you do your eating on the sidewalk, which was also good, since we could enjoy the weather. Mallory was our guide and she had cupcake facts, cupcake jokes and a cupcake joke contest, facts about the places we passed, and events that took place in the area. Mallory is definitely an asset! The only thing that was a little confusing was exactly where to meet - it is in Union Square park, on the corner of Union Square West and 14th street. A fun way to pass an afternoon - I recommend it!

by Lisa Marie on 17 May 2013

I purchased this tour on Amazon Local and I am so glad that I did. It was great. You visit 4 cupcake shops, 1 gelato shop and 1 cookie shop. Every place that we went we were given a sample. I had been to 3 of the cupcake shops before so I knew what to expect with those, but the other 3 places completely blew my mind. I can't believe that as a New Yorker with a sweet tooth like mine had never been to or even heard of these places. Our tour guide Mallory was great, she was friendly and upbeat and I thouroughly enjoyed her corny cupcake jokes. My only complaint is that you don't end the tour where you started so it was a bit of a walk back to Union Square. If you are not from New York, make sure you plan accordingly. Other than that, it was amazing and I'm so glad that I was able to do it.
  58. Had a great time on the cupcake tour

I live in the area and when a friend mentioned a groupon for a cupcake tour, I was all for it! Mallory was our tour guide and she was wonderful. She was very informative and did a great job! Plus it was a gorgeous day for a walk around the city to sample all the delicious treats. The stop at Amorino was a very nice addition and I will definitely go back for more gelato! Magnolia is usually the spot we go for cupcakes but now because of this tour I know of a few other great places to go. If you have some out of town guests visiting, who have a sweet tooth, I recommend this tour as a fun thing to do.

She kept the tour going at a great pace and highlighted major New York attractions along the way without detracting from the subject at hand - cupcakes.

The tour itself hit very tasty spots, and I really liked that towards the end (once we were all getting full), we were given the option to take the sweets home with us. I would recommend for anyone who enjoys desserts.

This was such fun! First of all the tour leader, Mallorie, was wonderful: engaging, friendly, knowledgeable about the subject (cupcakes) but also about the neighborhoods we walked through. I would rate 5 of the 6 places we visited and "tasted" at amazing (the exception, Crumbs, a big chain that was just "OK", and maybe even less). As a bonus you get to walk through some great neighborhoods throughout Midtown Manhattan, especially Greenwhich Village. And because of the amount of treats you got to try, it seemed like a great value (especially since we got a deal at LivingSocial). It didn't hurt that it was great weather, a perfect day! Warning: we made the mistake of eating Mexican right afterwards (at Cab Caliente, a so-so restaurant in the Village), which pushed our stomachs over the edge. Advice: let your tummies recover from the treats before eating anything else.

We had a great tour guide named Mallory, and if we weren't all already interested enough in cupcakes to go on a cupcake tour, she definitely gave us more reason to! She was very energetic and enthusiastic about what she was presenting to us (cupcake jokes included) and was willing to answer our questions and help us in any way like getting boxes to store the treats we couldn't finish for later. I found a coupon on living social and decided to take my kids (19 and 23 year old kids) on the tour. We had a blast. Our guide was Shannon (who normally did the chocolate tours) and even if she was just filling in, she was very entertaining and very knowledgeable.

As always, the cupcake from Baked by Melissa was very good. The gelato from Amorino was amazing. Crumbs was okay, normally I find the bigger cupcakes a little dry but the mini ones were good. Molly's was fun since we were able to pick our own flavors. Their cupcakes were good. Milk and cookies was another favorite, the oatmeal cookie with sea salt was soooo good. The red velvet from Magnolia bakery was good but I've had better.

Besides the food, it was nice to walk around and learn about the history of buildings and stuff around the West village.

Bit of advice: wear comfortable shoes, be ready to be all sugared up, bring water and be ready to have a great time!!!!!!

When my wife told me that she wanted to take a cupcake tour around NYC, I really thought she was crazy. I've never been a cupcake guy (or a fan of long walking tours for that matter), but I decided to fulfill my marital duties and please my wife. I couldn't have been more surprised. I didn't realize how cultural cupcakes had become. It was fun hitting these little cupcake spots I never knew existed. We also stopped at a gelato place for some reason. However, I didn't complain since it was still delicious! We even stopped at this one place "Molly's" that looked like a school classroom. It reminded me of when I was a kid and got to have cupcakes whenever it was a classmates birthday. But I won't bore you with a trip down memory lane. Our tour guide was Mallory, she was terrific. Very informative and knowledgeable, her upbeat enthusiasm and radiant personality made everyone enjoy the tour more. She had a wonderful sense of humor and even helped take pictures and give directions. My favorite part of the tour was actually not a cupcake sample though. The salt cookies at "Milk and Cookies" were AMAZING. Luckily for me, my wife didn't feel the same way so I got to have two! Overall I was really shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I will definitely try and check out the other tours in the company. Once again, always trust your wife.

Our tour guide, Mallory, was super nice from beginning to end. She gave us a little history about the area as we were walking around as well. Each of the stops we made were very good. I would have to say, my favorite of the cupcake shops was Molly's Cupcakes, as it is very inviting and probably the best tasting. Crumbs comes in 2nd place. The cookies from Milk & Cookies were DELICIOUS...salted oat cookie. It gave you that perfect combination of sweet and salty. My daughter and I spent a wonderful Fall afternoon on the Great N.Y. Cupcake Tour that we got through Groupon for $25 each. We had a wonderful guide named Mallory who navigated the streets of N.Y. with ease with our large group as she talked all about cupcakes the the places we were visiting. We had 6 stops: Baked by Melissa, Crumbs Bakery Shop, Molly's Cupcakes and Magnolia Bakery, Amorino and Milk and Cookies. The first 4 were cupcake shops and then Amorino for gelato and Milk and Cookies for a cookie. It was a nice mix and the samples were to die for. In fact, by the end, most of us were so full, that we had a take home box for our full size Magnolia cupcake. My only suggestions would be to 1)wear comfortable shoes, 2)bring your own water or milk to go along with the samples and 3) maybe some napkins as your fingers get pretty sticky after sampling the cupcakes and napkins were not supplied or always available.Other than that, this is a fun tour for people of all ages.

Prior to my trip to New York, my friend found a great deal through http://livingsocial.com for a cupcake tour with Great New York Tours for only $20 (I think the original price is $50). Sweet deal! The three of us jumped on the deal and booked it right away. Mallory was our awesome cupcake tour guide. She guided us safely through the streets of New York to each of our cupcake-ish stops. We met at Union Square where we were briefed on our cupcake journey. We were told that the tour would be about a mile walk....SO make sure you have comfy shoes and some water just in case you get thirsty on the way.

    Our cupcake tour itinerary:
    Baked by Melissa
    Crumbs Bake Shop
    Amorino (gelato)
Molly's Cupcakes (Create your own cupcake. Pick a cake flavor, choose a frosting and then dress it up with toppings)
    Milk & Cookies
    Magnolia Bakery (red velvet cupcake)

Given 2 out of the six were not cupcake stops, the gelato from Amorino and cookie from Milk and Cookies will give you that little break from the extra sweetness from all the cupcakes you eat along the way. Mallory was very knowledgeable about cupcakes and made it exciting with her little quirky cupcake jokes while waiting for crosswalk signs to change. I was very impressed and full from the different shops we stopped at. By the last stop, I ended up asking for a to go box so I could enjoy my last cupcake at a later time. I definitely recommend this tour for all the cupcake lovers out there!

My friend and I took part in the Cupcake Walking Tour and had a great time! I am a west coast cupcake afficiando so this was the highlight of my trip! Led by our cute and personable guide Mallory we visited six spots - Crumbs, Baked by Melissa, Molly's Cupcakes, Milk & Cookies, Amorino, and Magnolias. My favorite was Molly's where we made our own creations - the brown butter icing was SO good. The passionfruit gelato at Amorinos was a nice change of pace, as was the Salted Oat Cookie at Milk & Cookies. You get good sized samples at most places - minus the full-sized cookie and classic red velvet cupcake at Magnolias. I couldn't eat my final one - was so stuffed, but they gladly packed it up for us. Mallory was great about pointing out non-cupcake related sights, and even allowed us to stop in Washington Square for photos. All in all, a fun time.
